Weekends, where have you gone?

Oh man it feels like our weekends just pass us by in a blurr!

Last weekend we took our road trip to Chicago to visit friends and take a walk! We went on a 5k Walk for the Cure! http://nationalevents.cityofhope.org/site/PageNavigator/walk_landing

Amazing way to earn some money for woman's cancer research!

It was very chilly

But lots of fun to see these people!

Our kids were troopers through the cold and they were very tired at the end!

But let me tell ya, we drove all day Saturday to get to Chicago (endless traffic) and then turned around and came home Sunday. It feels like we didn't even have a weekend.

This weekend? Just as busy! Simon has gymnastics, lunch, nap, birthday party. By the time we get home Saturday its bed time, then Sunday we have church, lunch, nap, pumpkin patch, bath, bed. Not sure where we get to take a break but man oh man it's going to be Thanksgiving before I know it!

Check back next week, I am sure I will have tons of pictures of Kendall's first pumpkin patch adventure!

Dodger D. Dog

This is one of our dogs, Dodger.
Photobucket

He is the brown dog, sitting next to his buddy Oliver. Dodger is a mix between a pug and a caviler (the dog he is sitting next to is a pure breed cav)

Dodger D. now needs to find a new home. It breaks my heart to say that because is such an amazing dog. He loves to play, sleep under the blankets and can give a Nyla bone a run for its money. He could play fetch for a solid day if you let him.

He needs a new home because for the last year he has been fighting a food allergy. I am pretty sure he is allergic to wheat, because that seems to be what he is exposed to the most. We have him on a wheat free food but this energized little puppy is a SMART cookie! He knows to stalk my 2 yr old in the kitchen and this gets poor Dodger in trouble. He gets itchy when he has foods he shouldn't.

So Dodger needs to find a home where he will be played with and not exposed to the foods he can't seem to avoid here. He loves to be walked, and to play fetch.

He is totally potty trained and was pretty much born that way! He is perfectly crate trained and does amazing with kids ( I run a daycare and they ALL love him) he also loves other animals, just look at how cozy he and Oliver are!

If you or anyone you know is looking to be a loving pet owner please contact me! He deserves to go to a home where he will no longer be having these food problems but we won't take him to a pound! He is only 2 and we want to make sure he is well cared for.

We will ALWAYS take him back if it didn't work out with a new owner.

Halo Sleep Sack, Friend or Foe?

A wise parent once warned me not to have a child any time soon because I would never get to sleep in again.

Sleep? I don't need sleep! I was 19, I could stay up until 2am and still get up to for work by 10! I didn't need sleep!

I am now that same wise parent, cautioning the childless to enjoy sleep just a little longer

It's funny to me, before I had kids I could have cared less what time I went to bed. Midnight was early! The first week home with your newborn? All you want to do is get to bed by 10, PLEASE cute little baby close your eyes so that I don't have to see Jay Leno's chin tonight.

Don't even get me started on what its like to literally fight for sleep. My husband and I had many a sleepy eyed squabble over who had to lose an hour tonight or who had to get up at 6am to start the day.

Then we went out and bought this

Oh what a blessing, a swaddle Houdini can't escape from. The day we put this on our daughter she instantly starting sleep through the night. Our little 2 month old now slept from 7:30pm to 7:30am! 12 solid hours of bliss in our house, Chris and I would run and check on her at 3 am and do a little happy dance back to bed because she wasn't going to be getting up!

Fast forward 3 months later, Chris and I are used to the newborn phase being over. We are back to sleeping well and loving every second of it. Then I started to think..at what age did Simon stop being swaddled? It was much sooner than this! Panic sets in, have I started a bad habit with her? Is she TOO used to being swaddled? What if I have to wrap her up like a burrito until preschool?

I decided Sunday night that this was it! Cold turkey no more swaddle.

Lets just say we are on day 4 and finally it seems she might be used to have her hands free. Lots of tears and fighting and we are finally here. (The tears were more mine and the fighting more Chris telling me I am nuts to ruin our amazing sleep track record)

Here is Kendall enjoying her morning nap

So at what age do I take her out of the sack totally? I don't know, but after these last 4 days I am going to say that I am fine putting her in it for the next 5 years! I wont tell her friends, it can be our little secret!

Long time no blog

It's been awhile since I have blogged about the Nabkey family adventures, so I am thinking its about time I get on it

Lets play a quick catch up

Simon is now 2

And this is what he looks like 7 months post birthday

It's pretty unfair how quickly our kids grow up, I wish he could stay this amazing size forever. He can now use the potty on his own (for the most part)

Today I caught him filling his frog potty seat up with toliet water and drinking it "I CAN drink it Mommy, I CAN"...UMMM I know you can but here are 300 reasons why you shouldn't. And then the second time today after he "pee like daddy" (standing up) he decided to dunk my hair brush into the bowl to comb his hair.

And then we (Chris and I) did that thing people do sometimes and this happened

She is named Kendall

5 months

Don't mind the awesome quality of the 5 month picture, I will have a very nice 6 month picture in a month.

This little baby is a total DIVA. She knows what she wants and she wants it like yesterday! She is super sweet and loving until she is hungry or tired and then that cute little lip sticks right out in a pout and she is done.

So adventures to come

*Fright Fest at Six Flags with friends and The City of Hope Breast Cancer Walk

*Halloween 2010 (the great debate, Woody or Buzz for Simon and Princess Leha or a lady bug for Kendall)

*Chris Nabkey turns 24!

* And not to get to far ahead of myself but Thanksgiving/Christmas! AHHH where has the time gone?
